I’m going to state this right now: I’m not the biggest fan of the Teela character. I’ve always found her character design pretty bland and have not really been interested in her character either. In the movie her character was fine, but not necessarily memorable. She was just there.
So normally I’ve I’m not 100% interested in a character it can make a review like this a bit of a chore. Normally when I’m posing and playing around with a figure, I’ll find more to like about it.
SCULPTING
I think Mattel has done a good job with the sculpting for Teela. The likeness to actress Camila Mendes is quite solid. I think a lot of issues with this figure will be stemming from the costume design which doesn’t necessarily translate the best into action figure form. She’s got the same orange/yellow skin as He-Man which is a little bit off putting as it contrasts with the orange hair badly.
PAINT
Paint is serviceable on Teela. It’s neat and it matches well. The flesh tone on her chest is a bit too light, but that’s what happens when you paint white plastic. The face printing is good and helps make the head sculpts look like the actress more so.
ARTICULATION
She has about the same articulation as the male figures, however, my biggest issue is the holster hindering her leg articulation. But I don’t think there is any way around this one. It’s just how it’s going to be. However, the joints don’t feel as solid as the other figures. So I would say it’s not as fun to pose her.
ACCESSORIES
Changing Teela’s hands is a pain. I’m not sure if it’s just because it is winter right now, but I had to heat up the arms to change out the hands. The wrist pegs are very thin and that makes them difficult to change over. I didn’t break anything, but it felt like at times I might. She does come with a good number of accessories, a short sword, pistol and rifle, definitely more accessories than the average Chronicles figure. They all fit in your hands without too much trouble.
You also get two head sculpts as well which is nice as you have the option to have her hair tied up or down. The head is exactly the same on each head.
POTENTIAL PROBLEMS
Just those terrible wrist pegs is the main issue here. Everything else is fine with the figure.
PRICE
I paid $45 from Amazon, but I did see her available in stores initially when these figures were released. She’s not worth anything above the retail price.
OVERALL
I think Mattel has given Teela a lot of accessories and overall the toy by itself is pretty solid. However, I think the character design and orange/yellow skin and bad wrist pegs bring down my overall enjoyment of the figure, even posing her with her limited leg articulation became a chore too. Definitely only worth buying for completists only in your Chronicles display.
