REVIEW – MEDICOM KUBRICK STAR WARS UNBREAKABLE – SNAGGLETOOTH

Snaggletooth first appeared in the Mos Eisley Cantina scene in Star Wars: A New Hope. His original Kenner figure was released in a blue outfit and was in standard height. Kenner later revised the design, producing a shorter figure with a red outfit, but keeping the longer arms of the original toy. Both Snaggletooth versions have since become memorable and well-loved entries in the vintage Kenner Star Wars toyline.

I bought this particular Kubrick toy on my recent trip to Japan in May 2026. When I go to Japan, I never expect to find anything in particular. I try to just check toy stores thoroughly and hopefully find toys I’m looking for or didn’t know I needed until I saw them.

For this particular Kubrick figure, I can definitely say it was a very slow burn over the course of 10 years.

During some of my first trips to Japan, there was a store in Nakano Broadway that sells loose Gachapon toys and loose Kubricks for the longest time they had quite the collection of Star Wars Kubricks. 

However, over time, that collection has been bought, and now they only have a few left. When I was in this store, I would always look at them and like what I saw, but didn’t want to collect more Kubricks, especially with all the chase figures normally available it can be a chore to collect them.

When I was in the store this time on my first day in Japan, after selling some unwanted toys to Mandarake. I came across Snaggletooth on one of the racks mixed in with other Kubricks. I looked at him, and I thought to myself, I’m buying this little guy and hopefully won’t get sucked into buying more.

I also ended up buying a Gentle Giant Jumbo vintage Kenner-style Snaggletooth, too, so I guess it was just a Snaggletooth-themed trip for me as far as Star Wars toys go.

SCULPTING

Snaggletooth is sculpted very well! The head really evokes the look of the original Kenner toy, which this toy is based on, and looks great! The main focus is the head, with the rest of the body having the typical simplified Kubrick charm. Or in this case, a chest overlay for added detail.

PAINT

The paint is mainly for the head and fine details on this figure. Where possible, he’s been cast in the colour he’s meant to be. Like most Kubricks, the paint is very neat. Without much slop at all. However, you might find the occasional blemish on the painted parts. Just make sure you can inspect the figure closely, if possible, before buying.

ARTICULATION

Snaggletooth has the standard Kubrick articulation: Swivel head, ball-jointed shoulders, swivel wrists, swivel waist, ball-jointed hips. It’s a reasonable amount of articulation if you just want to play around with him every now and then. But his standard pose will be the museum one, which suits Kubrick just fine.

ACCESSORIES

Snaggletooth comes with his Han Solo-style blaster pistol, and that’s it. It fits in his hand easily and looks great. 

POTENTIAL PROBLEMS

I don’t think you will have any problems with this toy. This is a Kubrick Unbreakable toy after all! That means you can’t take him apart. So besides paint wear on the head or limbs. He’s not coming apart any time soon. I guess make sure you don’t lose his gun.

PRICE

I paid 2000 JPY for this particular Kubrick Snaggletooth, and I think that’s a pretty good price considering that other figures from the series go for much, much more.

OVERALL

This is a great little figure. It’s been a long time since I bought a Kubrick figure. But I’m glad I bought Snaggletooth as he has a lot of charm. He’s definitely great to have on any display shelf with other random toys, as he fits in very easily. The risk now would be starting to buy more Kubricks to go with him, and that becomes a very slippery slope very quick. Definitely worth picking up if you like Kubricks and Star Wars.

COLLECTIONS – GACHAPIN

Gachapin is a green dinosaur Japanese mascot character who appears on kids’ TV shows with his friend Mukku. Who you may have seen at least once if you’ve been to Japan. While there havn’t really been a lot of toys or figures of him. Over the years, I’ve been able to collect a small amount of Gachapin collectibles. Definitely one of those characters you always associate with Japan!

REVIEW – MEDICOM SNOOPY AND WOODSTOCK VCD

Snoopy is the pet beagle of Charlie Brown in the long-running comic strip, Peanuts. Appearing in the comic strip since the 1950s, Snoopy has become one of the most iconic and recognisable characters from the series.

This particular figure hadn’t really been on my radar to purchase. I knew of its existence, But never went out of my way to pick it up. That all changed after watching the Peanuts movie fairly recently, seeing my wife and son both like Snoopy too, I thought why not pick up one of the best-looking collectible figures available from Medicom.

SCULPTING

It’s always going to be hard to turn a 2D drawing into a 3D figure, but I think Medicom have done a pretty good job. Snoopy and Woodstock look best from the side, front on, not so much. From the side, they definitely evoke that distinctive Peanuts look, so I guess you could say that’s their best side. Lots of very smooth surfaces and hardly any texture matching what you would assume the character would have if you turned a drawing 3D.

PAINT

Snoopy and Woodstock are both cast in the colours they are meant to be; normally, that’s my personal preference for most figures over painting them, so that is already a big plus for me. What paint there is, is kept to a minimum. It’s nice and very neatly applied, up to Medicom’s usual high standards.

ARTICULATION

Snoopy has very basic articulation; his head is a ball-joint and his arms are swivel joints. It’s not really too much, but once you play around with Snoopy a little bit, it’s nice to have the option to change up the basic pose even if it’s just a slight variation.

ACCESSORIES

I could technically count Woodstock as an accessory, seeing that Snoopy is the biggest draw of the set to me. He’s got one swivel joint where his head meets his neck. He’s sculpted just as excellently as Snoopy and it’s neat he’s included as he really rounds out the set.

POTENTIAL PROBLEMS

None that I can see, except maybe Snoopy’s white plastic; could yellow if placed in direct sunlight and his neck joint might become loose over time if regularly posed.

PRICE

I paid a fairly decent price seeing I bought mine off Ebay, pretty much the same price as he can go for on Amazon JP, which was around $90.00 AUD including shipping, from Japan. That’s not too much of a mark up when compared to some of Medicom’s other products, considering I was fairly late to the party. With this particular set, I would try and pay as close to retail price as you can.

OVERALL

If you are a fan of Peanuts or Snoopy you really need to have this figure set in your collection, it’s an excellent representation of Snoopy and Woodstock, I haven’t seen anyone else make a figure that comes close to looking as good as these two do.

REVIEW – MEDICOM GIZMO VCD (Prop Size)

Gizmo is the cute and adorable Mogwai creature from both Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch films. Unlike the other Mogwai’s spawned from Gizmo when he touches water, Gizmo is very kind in nature; whereas all other Mogwai’s tend to be mischievous or vicious.

I found out about this particular Gizmo figure a while ago and after learning about how cool it looked I wanted to get one. Checking out eBay they were quite expensive and I could not justify the heavy price tag of at least $450 for this particular figure. So I decided to wait until I went back to Japan and hopefully buy one from the source. As luck would have it I managed to find one at Mandarake Shibuya for a great price and unopened too. Needless to say it was an instant buy for me. I’ve finally got around to reviewing Gizmo after having him in my collection for a few years now.

SCULPTING
Even though Gizmo is covered in a fur body suit, parts like the face, ears, hands and feet are sculpted. The sculpting is quite detailed and looks very faithful to the source material. He definitely looks cute and cuddly. The fur body suit is great too; the fur looks and feels really nice and not cheap at all, which you would think it would, considering this is meant to a high-end recreation of how Gizmo looks in the movie. I feel the look of Gizmo is based more on the second movie then the first.


PAINT
What paint we have, mainly on the sculpted parts, is excellent. It looks really good and mimics the fleshly parts of Gizmo not covered in fur, really well. I can’t fault it at all, it’s top-notch.

ARTICULATION
Gizmo does feature a bit of articulation, but by no means is he super poseable. Gizmo has a ball jointed head, swivel arms, swivel wrists, swivel crotch and swivel feet. The head and arm articulation is great and you can achieve a good number of poses suitable for Gizmo. The leg articulation is pretty pointless and really just helps make Gizmo not feel like a statue, from the waist down. It’s nice it’s there, but it’s not necessary. Gizmo also features moveable eyes as well, a small lever hidden at the back of the head when moved either left or right, move the eyes either left or right, it’s a pretty cool feature, even if a little limited, but adds a lot to Gizmo, in my opinion.

ACCESSORIES
This particular version of Gizmo doesn’t come with anything, unlike newer releases like the Santa version (2012) or the 3D Glasses version (2013). But that’s ok, because I like Gizmo just the way he is – without gimmicks, he doesn’t need.

POTENTIAL PROBLEMS
Nothing I can really think of. However, just me careful with the fur, perhaps it might deteriorate if it’s not looked after properly.

PRICE
I paid around the original retail price of 25,000 Yen, I was lucky enough to find one on my second trip to Japan and my wife went halves with me, because she loves Gizmo too. It’s going to be very hard to find one at that price anymore as they have skyrocketed quite a bit and rightfully so. If you can get one below $400 you are doing all right.

OVERALL
I really feel this is the most perfect version of Gizmo any company is going to make as it looks incredibly close to the source material and looks very impressive due to its 1:1 scale size. Nothing else out there comes close to being this good! If you can find one at a decent price, I highly recommend picking it up, even more so if you are a big Gremlins fan! Medicom definitely have the market cornered when it comes to the best Gremlins figure, no one else comes close to making anything this good.
