Big Boss Man was a tough, no-nonsense enforcer who became one of the WWF’s most recognisable characters during the late 1980s. Originally a prison guard before entering professional wrestling, he wore his distinctive police-style uniform and used his nightstick and handcuffs to intimidate opponents. During this period, he was known for his hard-hitting style and his association with the Heenan Family before eventually becoming a fan favourite.

Name: Big Boss Man (Ultimate Edition)
Line: Coliseum Collection – Series 6
Manufacturer: Mattel
Released: 2025
Price: $74.99 USD (with Bam Bam Bigelow)
Scale: 6 Inch
Accessories: Various accessories included

Mattel have been producing quite a number of Ultimate Edition figures based on the style of the classic LJN rubber toys, originally released in the 80s.

I personally like to just buy my favourites as I’m slowly building an 80s WWF shelf to go with my 90s WCW shelf. When Big Boss Man was announced, I was definitely interested, but didn’t necessarily want the Bam Bam figure that came with him.

Thankfully, playing the long game has worked out, as there are always sellers listing them separately if you wait long enough. Such was the case as I was able to purchase this Boss Man figure all by himself.

And thankfully, didn’t take too long to arrive at my PO Box and to get him into my hands!

SCULPTING

Mattel have done an absolutely excellent job with the three head sculpts included and the body of Big Boss Man too! This isn’t their first Boss Man figure, but it’s definitely the first Ultimate Edition Boss Man. All three head sculpts are expressive enough that it’s hard to choose a favourite; I really do like them all, and they even got Boss Man’s large torso very accurate to how he looked at this point in his wrestling career! A lot of wrestlers have unique body types, and it’s great when Mattel goes that extra mile to make them look more like themselves. I think this could only happen with the Ultimate Edition style of torso articulation.

PAINT

Paint is kept to a minimum, but still up to a high standard. The main paint applications on each head sculpt are very well done, and the rest of the paint applications are just for costume details.

ARTICULATION

Big Boss Man has your standard Ultimate Edition articulation. Double-jointed elbows and knees, ankle rockers, ball-jointed torso/neck etc, etc. You get a really good range of motion and natural poses. I feel just like the name implies that Ultimate Edition is just that – especially with articulation. I don’t think you will have any complaints with posing this figure.

ACCESSORIES

This figure comes absolutely stacked with accessories – three head sculpts, multiple hands and hand cuffs/ball and chain accessories and his nightstick too.

Everything included is figure-appropriate and well made. My only complaint would be I’d prefer some more hands, but I do have spares from other figures if I really wanted to change it up a bit.

POTENTIAL PROBLEMS

The only thing to worry about is the ongoing problem for those who take their figures out of the box: warped and deformed legs. The worst being Hulk Hogan. The left leg on this figure was bent the wrong way, but I was able to heat it up and work it back into better shape than it was right out of the box. This could have been avoided if Mattel had just turned the leg at the thigh swivel when putting it in the packaging. I can understand the want to emulate the original LJN poses, but not if it’s going to deform the figure’s limbs. That’s not acceptable to me.

PRICE

I paid a pretty reasonable price for mine off Australian eBay, from Go Figure Collectibles. I’ve bought from them on and off in the past and they have never let me down. We really have quite a lot of good wrestling figure sellers here in Australia these days, so it’s good to know there are plenty of options available.

OVERALL

This is easily the best 80s WWF Big Boss Man figure we are ever going to get. I don’t think this one can be topped. There’s definitely a lot of love gone into making this figure the best it can be, and it shows. Definitely worth picking up if you are after the definitive Boss Man figure for your wrestling figure collection.

Dino Riders was a short-lived toy line by Tyco started in the late 1980s; it also had an accompanying cartoon series and combined very detailed dinosaur models with futuristic weaponry. Each dinosaur came with its own unique armour, which, depending on the size of the dinosaur, included 1-3 small humanoid figures, in scale with the original dinosaur.

The Kentrosaurus’ role for its Rulon masters was to be used as a heavily armoured attack vehicle, equipped with multiple weapons and protective shields, while its smaller size allowed it to manoeuvre effectively in battle.

Name: Kentrosaurus with Krok
Line: Dino Riders
Manufacturer: Tyco
Released: 1989
Price: Then – $20.00 USD. Now – $250USD
Scale: 1:24
Accessories: One Rulon mini figure, One mini figure weapon set

I was very lucky to receive a Kentrosaurus with Krok for Christmas, I’m pretty sure my brother also received one. I tired my best to take care of this one and I definitely played a lot with my Dino Riders toys when I was young. They were easily some of my favourite toys I had when I was a kid, but trying to not lose any parts was always a struggle.

They are still some of my favourite toys to own as an adult too. Dino Riders and Transformers are easily some of my favourites and I am trying to fill in more gaps on my website by reviewing more of each series as I don’t think their is enough proper documentation out there of these toys.

LIST OF PARTS

Inside the box you get the following items:

One Kentrosaurus
One Rulon Krok figure

Four seat guns
One Brain box
Four large gun tips
One right harness
One left harness
Two shield links
One tail tip
One tail arm
One tail connecting link
Two shield guns
Two small gun tips
One right upper shield
One left upper shield
One right lower shield
One left lower shield
One weapon accessory set
One Instruction Book
One Comic Book

 PACKAGING

The packaging of Dino Riders toys have always been some of my favourite of all time. And I think the Kentrosaurus is easily one of my most favourite, probably only second to the T-Rex and Monoclonius box art. You have really nice art on the front of the box and get a good look at what’s inside after lifting the window flap and some nice product shots on the side and back.

SCULPTING

I’ve always felt a lot of effort was put into making the dinosaurs look as good as they could possibly be. However, when you compare the Kentrosaurus to the other dinosaurs in series one and two, it does look a little bit out of place in terms of size and sculpt. Something about it is a little off. It’s still an excellent sculpt and the Krok figure is sculpted very well too I’ve always liked the crocodile head. The body would also be used for all the series two Rulon mini figures.

PAINT

Not a lot of paint besides shading on the dinosaur to give it some details and a little bit of paint for detail work on Krok. Otherwise everything else is cast in the colour it’s meant to be. What paint that is on these toys is nice and neat.

ARTICULATION

Articulation for this toy is very basic each leg can be moved a little bit and same goes for the mini figure. Some limbs will be restricted by the sculpt. There is no walking feature for this toy, I kinda wish it did have one though.

ACCESSORIES

There is one weapon accessory set included with the Kentrosaurus: One rifle, one blade mace, one boomerang, one whip and one AMP detector. They are quite detailed and cast in red plastic and they fit onto Krok’s arms without too much trouble.

POTENTIAL PROBLEMS

Definitely losing the brain box is the biggest potential problem you are going to have. It’s very tiny and can be easily lost. Otherwise I think everything else is quite sturdy and durable.

PRICE

Here’s the worst part about wanting to buy this figure with the box – it tends to get pretty expensive, unfortunately! Especially if they are 100% complete. This is just how it is with some Dino Riders toys they just cost more than some of the others.

OVERALL

This is definitely one of the better toys from series two. However, to get one complete is going to be an expensive task. I’d say it’s not necessary required in a Dino Riders collection. But if you are able to get one, you will be satisfied with the toy. On its own it’s a great toy, even if it’s not as fun as some of the other toys released in the series.
