I’ve known about Dam Toys Gangster’s Kingdom line since its first release and there have been a lot of great releases so far, however, I haven’t found any of their figures I liked enough to purchase yet. I feel when they get to making an Arnold Schwarzenegger style figure for example; I might just jump on the band wagon then. That still won’t stop me from happily reviewing their figures if provided to me, like this one.

For their Gangster’s Kingdom line, Dam Toys used a very stylized and caricatured head sculpt. The result is quite stunning and makes for a very unique product in the 1/6 scale world.
Diamond 3 appears to be based on Danny Trejo’s Machete character and it’s a strong stylized likeness indeed! Very bold and sharp facial features. Not to mention great choice of facial expression!

The part of the figure that gets the most paint is the head sculpt, hands and the knives. Firstly with the head sculpt, the figure has a very stylized portrait and the tones and line work is top notch. They really help make the head look amazing the paint application is very neat and crisp.
The hands also have the same flesh tones and detail work; they match the head quite well and look great. There are tattoos printed on the body and they are very sharp and no slop at all – They are a nice touch and really help create the intimidating look of the character. Lastly the knives have a very nice blood splatter effect on them.

Diamond 3 uses Dam Toys standard base body for this figure. It has the following articulation: swivel/ball jointed neck, swivel/hinge shoulders, double-jointed elbows, swivel/hinge wrists, ball-jointed torso, swivel waist, ball-jointed groin, double-jointed knees and ball-jointed ankles.
You can get a good number of poses out of Diamond 3 and the body poses quite naturally. One issue I had was that the hard plastic cowboy boots really give Diamond 3 no articulation in his ankles at all, so you are restricted there a bit, the rest of the body, even with the chest rig and jacket one moves quite freely without hardly any restriction.

The outfit Diamond 3 comes with is pretty good. It’s tailored quite close to the body and doesn’t restrict the figure’s movement too much. It’s not Hot Toys quality, but it’s definitely better than anything Enterbay or Sideshow Toys could mass produce. I’m wondering how well the overcoat will survive in the future; it seems a little delicate to touch and with reposing of the figure could be prone to wear or damage.

Diamond 3 comes with plenty of knives! Not Surprisingly! Considering the character it’s based off, the knives part is a given. The figure comes with a great variety of knives in different shapes and sizes. They are well made and all fit into Diamond 3’s hands without too much of an issue, you can even get the tiny ones to fit.

I love the blood spatter effect on them, it’s really neat and works well with the characters bloody back story. There are no other weapons or even a display stand included, which is a little bit of a letdown, in this day and age a display stand is a must!

The last accessory of sorts is a Frank Miller Sin City style comic book with the origins of Diamond 3, it’s a great read, with a little bit of lost in translation with some parts of the dialogue. Including the comic works really well to help establish the character of Diamond 3!

One issue I found with this figure is the hair maintenance, like most figures with “real hair” it came out of the box a little messy and needed some combing to settle it down. I’m all for real hair on figures, as long as you don’t have to do too much work when you get it out of the box.
Besides the lack of ankle articulation this is still a well made figure and Dam Toys have been putting out a lot of interesting and well made figures lately.

This figure was provided by Australia’s TOY AVENGER for review, who is a distributor for Dam Toys in Australia. There are only a few left and they are available for the recommended retail price of $220 AUD plus shipping.
In most cases if you were to find a cheaper price elsewhere, the price is most likely in USD and with shipping after conversion you are looking at around the same price, so if you live in Australia you are better off supporting the local guy. Don’t forget to check out Toy Avenger’s other pre-orders via their facebook page.

Diamond 3 is a great figure! It’s another solid addition to the Gangster’s Kingdom series. If you are a fan of this series you have probably already picked this figure up. If you just want to dip your toe into Dam Toys’ ever growing series of stylized gangster characters – be careful! You buy one, you might want to back track and buy the rest!
